Fun for all ages

Christmas and New Year celebrations over, time to work again!

Malta welcomes the volunteers' happy return to Malta and Centru Tbexbix fills up with the smiles, laughs and enthusiasm of the children and activities start again. Jana and Gabriella refresh the memory of the children to improve their English with new and funny games, Cristina and Corinna help them develop their artistic creativity and Lucia, Aleksei and Mehmet play indoor games or attempt to turn them into little athletes.

Fresh additions to the schedule: An aerobics class on Thursday mornings for adults with Lucia and outings for children on Saturdays, (see below) Meanwhile Gabriella is keen on taking Maltese lessons from the children! They really enjoy taking the teachers’ role.

Turu’s Adventures

Balluta, ferla, buttiniera, berwieq were the names of a few of the Maltese indigenous trees and plants which Annalise gave to the children participating in the Nature Walk and mini clean-up organized by the Malta Tourism Authority at the end of January. A group of Centru Tbexbix kids joined other children at Buskett, to learn a little about the richness of our natural environment and become more conscious of the need to keep it clean and preserve it. At the end the children (and accompanying adults!) had learned over 20 names of trees and plants, all of them living together in such a small area.

It was also nice to see the children enthusiastically cleaning! Well done MTA and Nature Trust for the initiative.

Chinese New Year

The Arts&Crafts activities of January were on the theme of the Chinese New Year.

All the volunteers are involved in the  preparation of the Chinese party which will be at the beginning of February.

Cristina writes:

The Oaks group made beautiful Chinese lamps decorated with Chinese letters, Chinese posters advertising the Chinese Party, Chinese dolls, Chinese fans.

The laurels made a Big Chinese Dragon, they enjoy using water paint and brushes!

Pine made wonderful Chinese lamps, decorations with Chinese letters, small dragons, and of course rabbits, in line with this New Year zodiac.

Yoga Shoots

The new year has brought with it the Yoga Shoots programme once again.

Three classes and their teachers enjoyed the experience in January. It was a new challenge this time because for the first time we had three Year 1 classes taking part. All the team members worked a lot to make yoga accessible to five-year old students. As usual our volunteers succeeded in creating a fun-filled programme of yoga discovery through simple exercises, co-operative games, music, dance, relaxation, drama and food.

"For once I am seeing my children being really themselves" – expressed one of the accompanying teachers.
