January 2009 Newsletter |
January can traditionally be called "welcome back from vacations" month. For Centru Tbexbix we can say it was "welcome back from vacations with new inspiration." As the children returned from their fifteen day Christmas holiday we welcomed back Didi from her enriching Cairo/India experience. Natasha returned from her break in Russia and Jana returned to work after saying goodbye to her visiting German friends. Renewed energy and inspiration, consequently fresh ideas and plans to materialise for the coming year. Fresh blood Charlotte and Debbie are two new local volunteers who joined our team this month. Both of them are graduates in child care and psychology. Their artistic skills and experience with children with different learning needs are an asset to our programmes. They join locals Ruth, Lawrence, Marita, Claire and Elaine as well as our EVS team that will soon be strengthened with four new volunteers from Turkey, Italy, France and Czech Republic.
Volunteer's experience Natasha, our Russian EVS volunteer, writes: "At the moment I'm in charge of the games programme. For me it is magic to discover that what we do is not just playing. During the game the children learn how to interact, co-operate and respect others, how different the world is and how much we can do for it. In some social games I planned recently, the happiest moment was when all the kids were hugging each other at the end of the game! I also enjoyed giving guided relaxation after yoga, describing a walk in the snowy Russian forest with a blue tiger and arriving at a warm house. In the end it sounded as if the kids had taken a short trip to Russia, discussing their walk with the blue tiger!"
Next fundraising dinner Write it down in your diary – 28th February 2009 is the date of our next fundraising dinner at Centru Tbexbix. Come and share our delicious vegetarian dishes, meet your friends and support our work. Innovative fundraising ideas: After we closed our last fundraising bazaar, our friends Loranne and Sarah thought it might be worth the while to extend the fundraising event by taking the remaining stuff and some more to a car boot sale. So one Sunday morning they woke up at half past four in the morning and joined the queue at Razzett tal-Hbiberija... It turned out to be indeed worthwhile and fun too. They managed to raise €172. Thanks Loranne and Sarah, your sacrifice is appreciated.
